Grand Rapids Police Department

Mission of the Grand Rapids Police Department

The Grand Rapids Police Department shall lead in developing collaborative working partnerships with all of our community and service providers so that each and every citizen may enjoy the highest quality of life. Their mission is to identify and solve problems in neighborhoods by empowering police employees and holding them accountable to work in partnership with citizens, city services, schools, and other stakeholders.

Role of the Grand Rapids Police Department in the Weed & Seed Program

The Grand Rapids Police Department (GRPD) provides police representation on the steering committee.  Within the Central City site, GRPD annually performs a minimum of 400 hours of highly visible foot and bike patrols, provides crime statistics for community and DOJ reporting purposes, participates in community forums and has permanently assigned five community officers to work the area.  GRPD focus is targeted on narcotics, juvenile crime, aggravated assaults and gun violence.
