What is UGB?

Mission Statement: UGB aims to build a positive relationship between the Greek community at Grand Valley State University through leadership and service. UGB encourages diversity and education while participating in community service to those in need in order to create a positive image for Greek Life at Grand Valley while breaking down stereotypes.

UGB is short for United Greek Breaks, aprogram that was started for Spring Break 2010 by students who are involved in Fraternity and Sorority life at Grand Valley. The goal of United Greek Breaks is to develop leaders through various facilitated discussions. Throughout this week of service we also hope break down the walls and stigmas that surround individuals, chapters, and councils in order to continue to build our Greek community.
While the days are long, the service strenuous and the leadership development tiring, participants will develop, build, and foster relationships with others on the trip while taking a closer look at their own leadership style and tendencies.
The experience is unlike any other that is offered through Greek life in the sense that their is open discussion about ritual, values, problems, and concerns that affect every Greek individual on campus. Our common bond is our ritual so we must learn it, live it, love it and teach it to all those around us in order for us to prosper.

Where is UGB?
United Greek Breaks will be in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana this year, while traveling through several other states on the way. We will be working with Habitat for Humanity to build homes for those who suffered after Hurrican Katrina in 2005. It is a great opportunity for us to give back to the community since the disaster and a great way to show support for those in need.
Traditionally, leadership development has focused on developing the leadership abilities and attitudes of individuals. United Greek Breaks makes strides to enhance not only the quality of leadership within the individual, but also within their organization and Greek community.
The United Greek Breaks environment fosters healthy and progressive discussionswhich spur new and exciting ideas to increase Greek Unity on Grand Valley's campus. As Greeks the passion we all posess is astounding but when at United Greek Breaks, that passion is taken to another level and when you get to that level, that passion becomes contagious.
Individually we are weak, as we cannot accomplish much on our own. As chapters we are strong, as we make strides to help our fellow brothers and sisters provide change. As a Greek community, we are powerful beyond control and can use the passion and leadership developed from United Greek Breaks to create change here at Grand Valley State University.
