Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc.

Alpha Gamma Chapter

Our Mission: To nurture and further a dynamic, value-based environment which utilizes our Multicultural fraternity as a catalyst to better serve the needs and wants of all people.

Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc. is a social fraternity that was founded on cultural understanding and wisdom. As Brothers of Sigma Lambda Beta we value fairness, opportunity and the equality of all men regardless oSLB Marchf their race, culture, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, etc. Our biggest goal is to see that all of society can realize the importance of these three values. In order to achieve these goals, we all strive to model these behaviors and present ourselves in an educated and gentlemanly fashion. We are committed to create and expand Multicultural leadership, promote academic excellence, provide cultural awareness and education, and establish a Brotherhood amongst all intelligent and dedicated young men on university campuses across the nation.

On December 5th, 1998 the GVSU colony was founded by Brother Jeremiah “Profeta” Garza.  Some thought Sigma Lambda Beta would never survive in a school where of the 22,000 or so students only 2,000 were people of color; a number inclusive of all ethnic minority students. Nonetheless, Sigma Lambda Beta was to make its appearance and presence felt on a campus where much cultural awareness was needed.

SLB Campus Life Night

On November 4th, 2004 the goal that Brother Jeremiah Garza and Miguel Ortiz dreamed of became true. The hard work that the Grand Valley State University Colony had put in finally paid off when  they became officially recognized as the Alpha Gamma Chapter of Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity Inc.

Commitment, discipline, and strength in the face of adversity are character elements that the Brothers of the Alpha Gamma chapter have made part of what it means for them to be Sigma Lambda Beta men. A true sample of diversity and cultural awareness, they continue to build and strengthen their brotherhood, putting on solid programs, performing community service around the campus needs and bringing the name of Sigma Lambda Beta at GVSU to even greater heights.
