ENG 651 (Literary Period Seminar): A Medieval Sampler

Dr. Kathleen Blumreich

Chaucer

If you’ve been misled into thinking that the Middle Ages were ‘dark,’ this is the course for you. This semester, in an effort to better understand and appreciate medieval literature, we will explore a wide variety of texts, ranging from pastoral letters of instruction to chivalric romances to fabliaux. Authors will likely include: Heloïse and Abelard, Chrétien de Troyes, Chaucer, Julian of Norwich, Margery Kempe, and the Gawain poet.
