Chardonnay Henderson '13 had to change her plans when she realized that completing her degree would take longer than anticipated.
“I thought that I was going to be done at the end of the summer,” Chardonnay said, “and then I found out that even though my major requirements were done, I still needed more credits.”
Chardonnay, an advertising and public relations major, hadn’t planned on, or budgeted for, an extra semester of classes.
Like many students, Chardonnay had been relying on financial aid and working her way through college.
"At that time I had completely run out of financial aid, so I couldn’t afford to do it on my own,” she said.
After looking to the Financial Aid office for help, Chardonnay learned about the Student Support Fund, which provides critical assistance to students who otherwise would not be able to obtain their degree.
A scholarship like this, Chardonnay said, “can make or break somebody’s future.”
Chardonnay received the support she needed and graduated in December 2013. She is proud of her accomplishment and sees the Student Support Fund as a blessing.
“Because of the generosity of others, I was able to finish,” Chardonnay said. “My life has been better because of it.”
