Many Grand Valley State University alumni feel that it is important to remain active within their Laker community – and many are finding that the most gratifying way to do this is through a gift to the university.
“Making that first gift felt great,” alumna Jenifer Garcia said. “I am already researching other GVSU programs and funds that I can support.”
Garcia, a 2007 graduate who currently works as a Development Coordinator for the Spectrum Health Foundation and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Foundation, believes that the support she received as a student helped to advance her to the next level.
“I transferred to GVSU in the fall of 2004 after completing two years at North Central Michigan College in Petoskey,” she said. “All of my professors here and the professionals at Career Services helped me make some difficult decisions when it came to my degree… I could not have done it without them.”
She feels that her gift can help students who find themselves in similar situations.
“I know that every dollar counts,” she said. “And if one student can benefit from my support, that’s one student that has a brighter future.”
