Frederik Meijer Honors College

Due to a generous gift from Frederik Meijer and his family, the Grand Valley State University Honors College has been able to expand its facilities that provide for student success.

This support has enabled several developments including:

the expansion of career and post-college counseling services – which have guided our students on to graduate schools such as Stanford and Penn State, helped them receive fellowships and awards such as the Udall and Gilman Scholarships, and assisted in the acceptance of students to the DAAD Young Ambassador Program

the creation of an ongoing lecture series that exposes students to local and national talent, such as the lecture’s inaugural speaker, Dr. Jill Ker Conway

the establishment of scholarships for first-generation students – which in its first year of availability, increased freshman enrollment in the college by 15 percent

and the creation of a permanently endowed faculty chair devoted to entrepreneurship

President Thomas J. Haas is proud of these accomplishments and believes that they will have an impact far beyond Grand Valley.

“Because of these benefits and this additional academic rigor, we will be able to attract a broader range of students to West Michigan,” he said. “And as graduates, they will be future leaders in their communities and their vocations.”
