Michele Lutke is a senior majoring in social work and a native of Manton, Michigan. She attended a community college near her hometown, unsure of what she wanted to do. But after visiting Grand Valley State University and talking with a friend who was in the social work program here, Lutke made the choice to attend Grand Valley and has been on point ever since.
She is now interning at the Inner City Christian Federation through the School of Social Work’s job placement program. “I realized that I wanted to work with homeless people, and this internship has allowed me that experience,” said Lutke. “It would have been very hard to do this internship if I had to be working to pay more in tuition and bills. Receiving the Student Legacy Scholarship has really helped me avoid this issue.”
Lutke finds it uniquely special that students contributed to the scholarship she received, especially because it helped ease her own financial burden as a student. “Because former students gave to this scholarship, I can definitely see myself giving back after I graduate. I am grateful for receiving the Student Legacy Scholarship; thank you very much to everyone who donated.”
