Pooja Chakma is an international business and accounting major, and is originally from Bangladesh. “I chose to come to Grand Valley because they offered the best education for the money I’d be spending and the Seidman College of Business is a great school. I was able to receive an international scholarship which really helped me decide to come here,” said Chakma.
Chakma is now planning to stay in the United States to pursue a career in one of the Big Four national accounting firms. “The United States has a much higher demand for accountants than my home country, plus working in a large city would be more ideal,” said Chakma. “I’ve also been able to visit local accounting firms in Grand Rapids through being in the accounting honors society, Beta Alpha Psi, which was really helpful.”
Receiving the Student Legacy Scholarship helped offset the cost of Chakma’s tuition and has inspired her to give back to Grand Valley. “I think it is very generous to give back, even if it is a small gift, because it makes such a difference to students. I am very thankful to these donors and to the university for putting so much back into students and their education.”
