When Melanie Vargo visited Grand Valley State University on a friend’s recommendation, she was immediately drawn to the Seidman College of Business and downtown campus atmosphere. Now as a senior, she is deeply involved in university life. She is the former president and current vice president of service for Grand Valley’s chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, a national service fraternity. “Taking up these leadership positions has really taught me the value of service and helped me develop professionally,” said Vargo.
Vargo is also a student caller at Grand Valley’s Telephone Outreach Program (TOP). “Because I’m a Student Legacy Scholarship recipient, I can really appreciate the importance of my work. I’ve actually had the opportunity to call former students who gave to the Student Legacy Scholarship and thank them as a recipient. I let them know that I am doing well academically and am in leadership positions on campus, and it’s really rewarding to be able to thank them.”
In the future, Vargo is looking to participate in the FIMBA program and work with companies that make sustainable products, helping them communicate and capitalize on their unique products.
