Peter J. DeWitt '68

Peter DeWitt earned a BA in Mathematics from Grand Valley State Colleges in 1968. Peter served as Vice President of Union Bank and Trust from 1968 to 1978 before leaving to join his family business, DeWitt Barrels Inc. He retired in 2017 after being vice president and co-owner of the company that was founded in Chicago by Peter's great-great grandfather in 1893 and moved to Grand Rapids in 1939. The company sold its property to Grand Valley State University in 2002 as part of the creation of the Pew Campus in downtown Grand Rapids. He is the current President of ROTB inc. Peter is extremely dedicated to practicing environmentally sound business, and in August of 2006, he and his brothers established an endowed scholarship for Grand Valley students majoring in environmental studies. He currently serves on the board of trustees of the Reusable Industrial Packaging Association and has previously been on the board of directors of the West Fulton Merchants Association and the John Ball Zoological Society. Peter is a charter member of the GVSU Alumni Association and served two terms as Alumni Association President. He chaired the GVSU Alumni Associations first fundraising campaign. Peter is currently a member of the GVU Foundation and has served as a trustee since 1968.
