Philanthropic planning is an art that combines financial planning, estate planning, and tax planning techniques. It is a long lasting commitment that extends beyond your lifetime to touch generations to come. Explore your options.

Why is a plan important?

Making a philanthropic plan is important for many reasons:

• It is a way to ensure that support for your personal passions and interests continues far into the future.

• The sooner you make a planned gift, the more quickly you may take advantage of the financial and personal benefits.

• Without a plan in your estate or will, the distribution of your property may be ultimately directed by state law, or by someone you do not know.

How could my philanthropic plan benefit Grand Valley State University?

All gifts to Grand Valley are an investment in the university’s future. A planned gift in your will or estate plan, or a bequest, is the pinnacle of giving to Grand Valley. Additionally, a planned gift to Grand Valley compliments the annual gifts that you are able to give during your lifetime, and ultimately helps ensure the long-term success of the university and its students.

Donors who support Grand Valley with a planned gift are recognized in and become members of the Gillett Society. The Gillett Society is Grand Valley’s longest-standing donor society, and is named in honor of Richard M. Gillett, who was a driving force in the creation of the university.
