“Nobody knows how to build a car until you’ve done it; It’s really a learning process the whole way through.”- Patrick Sherer '14, GV Racing Team Captain
In their spare time, Grand Valley engineering students involved in GV Racing are designing and building a racecar that they will race at Michigan International Speedway against universities from around the world.
The team members do not get class credit for the project, but gain experiences that will benefit them in ways that the classroom cannot. "Any student who wants to get experience, this would be a great opportunity for them," said GV Racing member Michael Sweers. "They can go to an automotive company down the road and say this is something that I did while I was in school, on my own time."
GV Racing is open to any Grand Valley engineering student. While the personal benefits are obvious, team captain Partick Sherer said the team's work also improves the program as a whole. "It is all benefitting the education, and the experience, and the engineering program here at Grand Valley," he said.
