Earl Holton was president of Meijer Inc. from 1980 to 1999 and a member of the Board of Trustees of Grand Valley State University. As an advisor for the Grand Valley University Foundation, he participated in several projects and campaigns including the Cook-DeVos Center for Health Sciences, Science Equipment Endowment, and WGVU Public Broadcasting. In 1997, he was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Business Administration from Grand Valley State University.
