Create a Scholarship

Many people choose  a scholarship in the name of an individual of organization. Your gift can create an annual scholarship that will be distributed this year or an endowed scholarship fund that will continue to provide scholarship gifts for years to come.

 

Create a Scholarship in Four Steps

Step One: Name your scholarship.

Create a named scholarship in honor or memory of:

  • a friend
  • a community leaders
  • a graduating class
  • a graduating student
  • a loved one
  • a faculty or staff member
  • an organization

Step Two: Select the type of scholarship you wish to create.

There are two categories of named scholarship giving from which donors may choose to give: annual and endowed. 

 

Endowed Scholarships - A scholarship endowment is a permanent fund invested by Grand Valley State University as a component of its greater endowment fund. A minimum gift or pledge of $30,000 creates a new scholarship. It can be established through an outright gift or through a pledge over a period of five years.

 

Annual Scholarships - These scholarship awards are created from a gift of $1,500 per year. The funds are used immediately to support students and do not carry forward into future years. 

 

Step Three: Select an area of need/interest.

You might consider the following areas of need that are university priorities at this time:

  • academic excellence/merit based
  • athletic based
  • need based
  • first generation college students
  • non-traditional students
  • transfer students

 

Step Four: Select your payment option.

These options reflect the many ways that you can fund your newly created scholarship, such as:

  • cash
  • charge
  • check
  • stock
  • securities
  • estate/planned gift
