"President Lubbers, Thanks for making this place so "GRAND". I started working here in 1998 and had never heard of GVSU before moving to the area. Now as I begin my 15th year here we are one of the best institutions in the state! I am also proud to be an alum (twice over) and join the 85,000+ alums who contribute to west Michigan. We owe so much to your leadership and foresight. Thank you!!"

"The Don Lubbers Excellence in Athletics Facilities Fund: What a fitting tribute to the man who made Grand Valley State University what it is today. Your dedication, vision, guidance and influence continue to have a profund impact on the University, GVSU Athletics, the West Michigan Community, the State of Michigan and all GVSU students, faculty, staff and Graduates. On a side note, talking about dedication, we still remember Bill's dad talking about being 1 of only 2 Grand Valley fans up in Houghton at the Michigan Tech Game in 1976. The other fan was Don Lubbers. Thank You for everything you have done for us and for Grand Valley State University. We would not be where we are today without your leadership."

"President Lubbers, I was a student in 1971 and Grand Valley was just beginning. Grand Valley is where I "grew up"!! Copeland, the bon fires, the concerts, Thomas Jefferson College!! It is where I learned to THINK ABOUT THINGS, to ask questions. It is where I first learned that everyone didn't think the same, that I had choices and responsibilities, I learned to listen to other people and accept them for who they were. We stole the white goose from the pond and put it in the dorm, and actually called you, the president, if we didn't agree with you and you listened. Grand Valley was the beginning of my life....now I am a teacher, BA and MA from Grand Valley State University. Thanks for listening, smiling, and laughing with us as we grew up. Things were so simple then. "
