~Assisting faculty as they strive for teaching excellence within the ideals of a liberal education~
In 1995, the University Academic Senate recommended that a center be established to support the University's efforts toward achieving its goal of teaching excellence. In response, the Pew Faculty Teaching and Learning Center was founded, charged with a mission to serve as a resource for faculty development. Toward this end, the Pew FTLC presents programs throughout the calendar year, including workshops, mentoring programs, conferences, and consultations. Its directors offer leadership on teaching and learning issues across the university with a particular emphasis on what it means to teach within a liberal education context. Funded in large part by an endowment from Robert and Mary Pew, the Pew FTLC also provides grants for faculty development activities and awards for recognition of superior teaching in a variety of categories. The Pew FTLC's services are open to all faculty, both full and part-time.
