Laker Golf Teams Continue Spring Seasons in Ohio and Indiana This Weekend

Allendale, MI: March 28, 2014 - The Grand Valley State men's and women's golf teams are coming off a pair of victories last week and will be eyeing some more hardware this weekend.

The women's team, which finished atop the 23-team field at the Perry Park Spring Fling last Sunday (March 24), will compete in the NC4K Classic at Jefferson Country Club.

Play will begin with a 2:00 p.m. ET shotgun start on Sunday (March 31). The second round of the 36-hole tournament, which is being hosted by Ohio Dominican in Columbus, Ohio, will take place on Monday (April 1) with tee times falling between 8:00-10:00 a.m. ET.

The Lakers finished second and had three individuals place eighth or better in this same event last season. Kelly Hartigan came in second, Veronica Ryan tied for fifth and Gabrielle Shipley recorded an eighth-place finish.

Meanwhile, the men's team is coming off a seven-stroke victory at the Saginaw Valley State Spring Invitational and is heading to Columbus, Ind. for two days of competition.

GVSU will take part in the Wisconsin Parkside Spring Invitational at Otter Creek Golf Club, an event it took fifth place at last season.

Teams will begin teeing off Sunday at 8:30 a.m. ET, but the Lakers' six golfers will start their rounds between 9:30-10:07 a.m. ET. Tee times have yet to be determined for Monday's closing 18 holes.

On day one of last year's tournament, Chris Cunningham fired a 69 (-3), the best round by any golfer at the event. He carded a 78 (+6) on his final 18 holes to tie for fifth place individually.
