GVSU Wins NC4K Classic by 16 Strokes, Hartigan Claims Medalist Honors

 

2014 NC4K Classic Results

Columbus, Ohio: March 31, 2014 - Snow and heavy rain resulted in the NC4K Classic being shortened to just one 18-hole round, which allowed the Grand Valley State women's golf team to run away with the team title. The Lakers had two golfers tie for first place and won the tournament by 16 strokes.

GVSU posted a score of 300 (+12) to win its second event of the spring season. Northwood finished a distant second with a 316 (+28), Ferris State (319, +31) came in third and Ashland and Findlay tied for fourth place with a pair of 321s (+33).

Junior Kelly Hartigan also picked up her second victory of the spring with an even-par 72. The Lake Orion, Mich. native tied for first place with sophomore Gabrielle Shipley and Findlay's Brooke Albers, but parred the first playoff hole to claim medalist honors.

Senior Veronica Ryan carded a two-over par 74 to take fifth place, which marked her third top-five finish of the 2013-14 season.

Freshman Julie Guckian fired an 82 (+10), junior Molly Esordi tallied an 83 (+11) and individual competitorCassady Kauble shot an 86 (+14) to round out the Lakers' scores.

Next up for GVSU is a trip to the JBMF Cavalier Classic at Glenmoor Country Club in North Canton, Ohio. Play will begin on Sunday, April 13 and conclude on Monday, April 14.
