Research Scholars Program
The Family Owned Business Institute (FOBI) at Grand Valley State University exists to promote, preserve, influence, and impact family businesses through quality academic research, curriculum, and information services. As part of its research mission, FOBI created the Research Scholars Program.
The purpose of the Research Scholars Program is to encourage faculty to conduct new, high quality research with an emphasis on family business dimensions. Research is the key to uncovering the truth underlying these discussions. The Research Scholars Program further facilitates this rigorous inquiry.
FOBI Research Scholars are required to disseminate the results of their research. viable methods include meetings, seminars, publications, and the classroom. Research may involve a broad range of issues and methodologies including theoretical, empirical, and case studies. In addition, scholars are expected to convert the research into a publishable, referred journal article with appropriate reference to FOBI for its support.
Applications are reviewed by the FOBI Review Board and leading scholars within the family business field. Together, the Dean of the Seidman College of Business and the Director of the Family Owned Business Institute will appoint the Research Scholars. Scholars receive a one year appointment beginning May 15th.
Four to six grants are awarded each year. The winning proposals each receive a stipend of $5000. To view past FOBI Scholars, please follow this link.
