The objective of the proposed research is to build on a growing body of theoretical and empirical literature suggesting that family businesses outperform the non-family businesses. The authors seek to investigate why family businesses, in particular the second or later generation, are able to gain a strategic advantage through greater operational effectiveness in comparison to the non-family firms.
The goal is to integrate the insights from the resource-based view and agency theory with the insights from the operations and organization theories to formulate a systemic framework that accounts for the genesis of the superior operational effectiveness advantage of the family business.
