Toni Perrine Professor Associate Director, School of Communications Toni Perrine is a film scholar and documentary filmmaker who has been teaching at Grand Valley State University since 1989. She has a particular interest in film as cultural history, world cinema (especially the cinema of Latin America), and documentary production and history. Professor Perrine's main goal as a teacher is to work with students to improve their analytical reading, writing and viewing skills. Courses she teaches regularly include Film Theories, Film Culture, World Cinema, History of Documentary, and War in the Nuclear Age. Professor Perrine is actively engaged in documentary production. Grass War! Peasant Struggle in Brazil was completed in 2001 and is distributed by Cinema Guild. In addition to airing on PBS and TV Cultura (Brazilian PBS), it won an Award of Merit from the Latin American Studies Association and a Cine Golden Eagle.
More information on "Grass War" Professor Perrine regularly presents her work at academic conferences including the Society for Cinema and Media Studies and the University Film and Video Association. She also attends national and international conferences devoted to Latin American Studies. Her book, Film and the Nuclear Age: Representing Cultural Anxiety, was published by Garland Press in 1998.
