AUGUST 22–OCTOBER 31
Enjoy viewing jewels of 20th century art through this exhibition celebrating a significant new gift to the art collection of Grand Valley State University.
Throughout their marriage, Stuart and Barbara Padnos amassed a notable collection of art, filling their waterfront home in Holland, Michigan. The art collection represents an overview of both European and American art of the 20th century and a legacy to the Padnos' ever-evolving artistic aesthetic and wide range of interests.
The couple's shared passion for collecting joined selected works by noted international names such as Marc Chagall, Raoul Dufy, Joan Miró, and Paul-Emile Pissarro with American regionalist artists Thomas Hart Benton, Childe Hassam, Grandma Moses, and Mathias Alten into a single collection.
The Stuart and Barbara Padnos Foundation donated this significant gift to Grand Valley State University in 2013. The couple's generosity and commitment to the arts at Grand Valley also is represented in the name of the student exhibition space at the Calder Art Center and through the Stuart and Barbara Padnos Chair in Art and Design established in 2005.
