Major: Engineering - Electrical I helped wire machines, build machines, create and update schematics, use CAD to design solutions, and helped move a launch product into production. I also was able to learn how to use different electrical equipment and conduct studies directly for our customer.
Major: Engineering- Interdisciplinary As a co-op student, I was placed on projects that were related to my interest. Due to the diverse make-up of the company in terms to technical and design focuses, I was exposed to a multitude of projects. My work was generally done alone, interfacing with teammates when necessary. I focused in large parts on a testing system for the user interface of a product we were working on for a customer. There was consistent correspondence with the customer as we worked together to identify bugs within the system, pinpoint their causes, and adjust the code to fix them. This was a nice project to work on in that it was nearly instant gratification. When we were able to pinpoint an error in the code, fixing the bug generally didnýt take long and the device firmware was quickly updated. One of the more fun projects I completed required me to do a physical build of an office productivity unit; this hands-on project was an incredible change of pace from the research that I was so often assigned and was a great opportunity for me to express my creativity in the prototyping process and iterative stages of the design. Major: Engineering - Computer I worked as an intern in Advanced Quality Engineering for this co-op. I supported two different teams in reviewing, executing, and correcting software scripts. For one team, I received official training to execute the scripts in test lab and sign my name off on everything. I also worked on two other projects independently. I designed an excel macro/app for my mentor, which automatically sorts through thousands of lines of complaint data he previously had to manually organize for days. This will aid him in completing Risk Management Forms, which is a common process for AQEs. My program will be used by multiple engineers. I also did some work with an engineer involved in the design of surgical power tools. Stryker receives runtime data during surgery for every drill currently out in the field. I organized and performed statistical analysis on the data, and gave him an estimate of life-use, and single-use metrics for the tools. He could then use this information to communicate to customers on how to use the tools properly.
