Description of the Organization

The State Department is first and foremost responsible for the protection and security of U.S. citizens abroad. It is also the primary institution by which the U.S. government develops and maintains relations with other nation's governments.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

Worked on ISO 2001-9000, international management standards. Updated documents and reviewed processes to ensure they were being adhered to. ICASS budget work. Reviewed budgets, payroll,and rental payments. Prepared documentation for ICASS meetings and attended. Basic data entry, copying, filing, scanning, shredding work.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

Interpersonal skills. Budgetary and financial experience. Time management. I was also able to gain insight into my own abilities to cope with a new culture and work environment.

Favorite Part of the Experience

Having the opportunity to work abroad and experience another culture. Working directly with Italians open my eyes to the differences between cultures, and some of the similarities. It was also amazing to be in a city with such history.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

My goals remain largely unchanged. I hope to obtain a career that allows me to work in the international arena. Hopefully travelling often and experience new things. I now have a much better understanding of what types of diverse careers are available.
