Description of the Organization

Probably smaller than most other internship sites. There are about seven coaches, one or two per event group (sprints/hurdles, distance runners, throwers, jumpers, pole vaulters). My supervisor is the head coach who specializes in distance events. There were two other interns under who worked under this coach, as well as five other interns who worked for two of the other coaches. There was also a team trainer and chaplain who traveled with the team.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

Compilation and distribution of a biweekly newsletter to alumni, which was comprised of multiple athlete interviews. Management of social media accounts, more specifically live tweeting meets and posting photos and videos to Instagram. Meet set up and tear down. Promotion of upcoming summer camps at home meets and local high schools.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

Professional written communication for an audience of over 500, development of basic journalism skills, professional social media development, and interpersonal communication

Favorite Part of the Experience

Interacting with the athletes, spectators, and game operations crew.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

If anything this experience simply reaffirmed where I would like to go with my career and made me realize certain aspects about this field that I enjoy. For instance, I really liked being able to get creative with social media and traveling around to different track meets.
