Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

I've been learning a lot of techniques (like designing silhouettes or using shapes to depict personality) in my Illustration class that I've been able to put to use in my internship. The projects I've received have a lot to do with character and environment design. I'm learning what makes a character design work, and how to add personality to my environments through world building. I'm also learning how to have healthy work habits, keeping track of my hours, and good communication over phone calls and emails.

Favorite Part of the Experience

So far it has been working on the designs for the "Adopted Family" cartoon pitch. I was able to develop a cute family of adopted animals from scratch. I got lots of great feedback from my supervisors, which demonstrated what the process of developing a character or setting is like, and how a character can evolve into something totally different from the initial vision over time through revisions and a combination of creative minds.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

This internship has shown me how busy the animation industry can get. Though busy, it has also shown me excitement through the joy of finishing a project after the long process, and the joy of creative problem solving in design. My supervisors are so welcoming and always have such kind things to say about my work. They really help me transition into the animation industry and get a mindset of what I could expect.
