Description of the Organization

The Children's Healing Center is nation's first year-round recreational facility for children with weakened immune systems and their families. The Center cultivates a community of support for families through programs focused on research-based play, art, socialization, active fitness, and emotional health.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

As the Administrative Intern, I was privileged enough to work on a variety of projects during my time at the Children's Healing Center. I wrote grants for the organization, managed social media accounts, coordinated a Giving Tuesday campaign, helped plan a fundraising event, curated marketing content, and organized staff's time tracking.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

The most valuable aspect of my internship was to see the day-to-day workings of a successful nonprofit. I recognized how truly valuable being adaptable and flexible are in being involved in the health and nonprofit worlds. I also learned that good leaders are good storytellers. Prior to this internship, I always tried to be intentional with my language. This experience has shown me the power marketing can have on an organization.

Favorite Part of the Experience

My favorite part of this internship was volunteering with our members during programming. Volunteering allowed me to further connect with member families in order to understand how I could best serve them. I utilized this information for marketing purposes and in larger scale projects. It was also a nice weekly reminder of the Center's mission.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

Prior to this internship, I thought I wanted to manage a large hospital or health system one day. This may not be the case anymore as I realized I liked seeing the direct impact I made and regularly interacting with the population I serve.
