Description of the Organization
West Michigan Sports Commission is a relatively new organization that brings amateur sporting events to the Grand Rapids Area. It has had a lot of success in only a few years. The people are great to work for and it is a great experience to be a part of their team.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
It was a lot of Event Management. You would help set up for events like the Meijer State Games, Transplant Games of America, The Color Run, and the U.S. Open Table Tennis. You have to work long hours and have to be able to communicate well with others.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
You have to be patient with others sometimes and trust that everyone will do their part. You have to be able to work long days repeatedly. I also learned how to do a lot of problem-solving.
Favorite Part of the Experience
I met a lot of great people to work with and it put me in a real work environment. I got to work behind the scenes and see how a real event is put together and how much time is really needed.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
I would love to work in Event Management now. Before I didn't think this was something I wanted to do but now I want too.
