Description of the Organization

Grand Valley Athletic Department, specifically working with the athletic director of Student Welfare & Development.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

Serve as the first point of contact for walk-in and phone traffic. Draft and send emails representing the office. Assist student-athletes with awards, event information, and general questions. Produce reports and documents utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, and other software. Create content for monthly newsletters for Student-Athlete Welfare and Development. Create and manage social media accounts. Assist with planning and implementation of various workshops & events that the student-athlete welfare & development office hosts. Attend Student-Athlete Welfare & Development events. Conduct research into similar student-athlete welfare & development programs to report on best practices. Other assignments and projects assigned by the Associate A.D.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

I have gained interpersonal skills constantly speaking to professionals, in person, and via email. Throughout this internship experience, I have had the opportunity to see behind the scene aspect of college sports. Budgeting, implementing plans for athletic travel, hosting tournaments, and much more!

Favorite Part of the Experience

My favorite part about this internship experience was the constant knowledge that I received. Everyday I learned something and something new was bound to arise any day.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

This experience influenced my future goals in a positive light. I want to have a career in college athletics and this internship allowed me to gain insight on how things work within athletics.
