Description of the Organization
Mary Free Bed is a long term rehabilitation hospital that deals with spinal cord injuries, amputees, PT, OT and brain injuries. They aim to restore hope and freedom through rehabilitation.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
Through my internship, I was responsible for opening the new Employee Fitness Center. This process included writing policies, ordering equipment, leading department-wide meetings and hiring a new intern for the fitness center. In addition to my main project, we implemented monthly wellness initiatives for employees including National Nutrition Month Expo, Stress Awareness and Earth Awareness Week.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
Through this internship I gained leadership and interpersonal skills. Mary Free Bed blew my expectations out of the water. During my first week I met with the CEO, CFO and head of five departments in the hospital. I learned to plan and execute meetings, send hospital-wide emails and was involved in the hiring process for new interns.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of my internship was the grand opening of the Employee Fitness Center. It was amazing to see all the hard work that had gone into the project finally pay off.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
I now feel confident for upcoming interviews and I look forward to applying the skills I have learned to my future in Dentistry.
