The Foundation Review Webinar - Building the Capacity of Networks
Working with networks is a key strategy for most philanthropic efforts to change community systems. The Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation created a role of network officer, charged with supporting the development of effective networks. Whereas a traditional program officer solicits and monitors grants from a distance, the network officer interacts directly with funded networks, offering advice, posing questions, and assisting with the recruitment of new members.
This hands-on approach has added value for Babcock-funded networks, especially in becoming more strategic and action-oriented. But the model also introduces complications, especially with regard to the grantmaker-grantee relations.
Join in this conversation with the evaluator and the foundation president for a lively discussion about the internal and external challenges of working in this innovative way with community organizations.
