The main objective of the program is to offer students the opportunity to expand their knowledge of the language and the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. Students will live in Santiago, the second largest city in the Domini-can Republic with almost one million people. In addition to the two rigorous academic courses, the students will participate in a service-learning opportunity at a local community organization. They will also experience the rich Dominican culture through excursions to Santo Domingo, a city with gorgeous architecture and a rich history; La Romana, home the vibrant artist community Altos de Chavón; Bayahibe, a fishing village with white sand beaches; and Saona Island, part of the Parque Nacional del Este. Other cultural activities include group dance lessons, visits to museums, craft factories, Haitian markets, and more.
