Description

Sea, Sky, and Books: Visual Stories from Data

Guest lecture by designer and writer Heather Corcoran

Wednesday, October 11, 6-7pm, Multipurpose Room, Mary Idema Pew Library

Can data slow down, become more meditative, and be bent toward poetry? Data overload is a social condition of our time. This talk will examine and compare several visual projects that respond to this condition. Some are representations of time-based data lifted from sea and sky. Others are based in literature and literary history, integrating numerical data. Taken together, these projects consider how the informational, the textual, and the visual express the passage of time. They position data visualization between art as cultural artifact and design as functional tool.
