Should freedom of speech be curbed if it offends anyone, especially religious people? Or is protecting freedom of speech central to a healthy exchange of ideas and civil debate? Should sensitive subjects about religion and politics be discussed in public?
In this lecture and book-signing event, author and scholar Wendy Doniger will speak about her experiences of getting her book, The Hindus: An Alternative History, withdrawn from publication in India because it offended a group of right-wing Nationalists. She will speak on the challenges of discussing sensitive topics in the study of religion, especially Hinduism.
