DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Alternative Breaks is a service-learning student organization that sends affordable week-long volunteer trips to various cities throughout the United States during winter and spring break.&nbsp; The organization hosts monthly Service Saturdays that is open to any GVSU student interested in spending the day volunteering with a non-profit organization in Grand Rapids without any cost.&nbsp;\r\n
Alternative Breaks' first Service Saturday of 2012 will be held at the Land Conservancy of West Michigan.&nbsp; Volunteers will be working at the Lamberton Lake Preserve, helping prepare for a restoration project slated to begin this spring.&nbsp; Volunteers will be removing invasive buckthorn, clearing the property of brush and debris, and installing monitoring wells as time allows.&nbsp; \r\n
