He began painting at the age of fifteen.  \;Over the course of his\n\n70-year career\, Merizon painted with rigorous dedication despite the hardships of the Great Depression\, personal financial destitution\, and the physical maladies of macular degeneration\, cancer\, and arthritis. He was an inspiration to all who knew him\, and left a legacy of creativity\, integrity\, and perseverance.
