The Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition (GGRBC), West Michigan organizations and businesses are coming together May 14-18thto support employees and their families in taking an active approach to their daily commute. The inaugural Active Commute Week, offered in conjunction with the nationally recognized “Bike to Work Week” highlights a number of ways in which West Michigan residents can improve their health and wellbeing, save some money and live a little greener.
Active Commute Week Challenge
The Active Commute Week Challenge will take place May 14-May 18th. Employees track their daily forms of alternative transportation online and compete against other organizations to win daily prize drawings and vie for the Active Commute Week Challenge Trophy! There is no cost to participate and is open to all organizations and community members. Organizations signed up for the challenge to date include: Amway, Grand Rapids Public Schools, Grand Rapids Community College, Grand Valley State University, Meijer, Metro Health, Priority Health, Steelcase and West Michigan Bike and Fitness.
GVSU Connecting Campuses Ride
Wednesday May 16th 5:30pm
Riders meet at the Alumni house on the Allendale campus (1 Campus Dr) and Bike Factory (201 Front Ave). Route follows Lake Michigan Drive and Obrien between Allendale and Grand Rapids. Riders have the choice of riding out and back or one way and hopping on the Rapid 50 route to take them back to the starting point.
