As part of the African Diaspora Conversation Series, Dr. Steeve Buckridge, Director of Area Studies, will be a presenting the lecture:

Dr. Steeve Buckridge is the author of The Language of Dress: Resistance and Accommodation in Jamaican Society, 1760-1890 (2004). His areas of interests are Pre-Colonial and Colonial Africa, Slavery and early Colonial Caribbean, Gender and Sexuality, and Material Culture. In his lunch lecture Professor Buckridge will discuss dress in colonial Jamaica and its role as a visual representation and conveyer of class, status and identity.
