Asian New Year Festival
Come celebrate the Year of the Dragon with Asian Student Union! Free admission.
Date and TimeThursday, January 26, 2012
6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
- Kirkhof Center » RM 2250 GRAND RIVER ROOM
New Year? Wasn't that kind of, like, awhile ago? Totally. We know. In many Asian cultures, the beginning of the year is based on the lunar calendar rather than the internationally accepted Gregorian calendar of Western culture. As such, the first day of the lunar month falls on January 23 of this year. Join Asian Student Union on January 26 to celebrate Lunar New Year! This FREE festival will consist of various entertaining performances, including cultural and modern dances, martial arts demonstrations, a fashion show, Japanese Taiko drumming, a yo-yo performance, and for the first time, a traditional dragon dance. In past years, Asian New Year Festival has features lion dances, which consist of two performers. However, a full dragon dance requires even more participants. As 2012 happens to be the Year of the Dragon, this is something you simply won't want to miss! Asian Student Union will also be doing its first collaborative musical medley. Come out and support our talented pianists, dancers, guitar players, and vocalists! Not enough to get you to say yes? CHALLENGE ACCEPTED. As a...friendly reminder, we'll be handing out FREE treats and serving FREE traditional Asian cuisine after the show. Bring your friends and family to enjoy it as well! We hope to see you there! -- Like ASU on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Grand-Valley-Asian-Student-Union/124871657589128
