Students, faculty and staff members, members of the West Michigan Writer Group and the community are invited for an evening of haiku and prose in conjunction with the Art Gallery exhibition of Forged in Metal: Deshi/Shisyou, Mentee/Mentor, contemporary Japanese jewelry from Hiko Mizuno College in Tokyo.
Guests may participate by reading an original piece of haiku or prose poetry on the theme of mentors and mentees, or simply enjoy the works read by others. Two juried and two popular vote prizes of $50 will be awarded to a student and a non-student in each category.
Judges are Alison Swan and Wendy Colsen. Swan is an award-winning poet and prose writer who teaches environmental studies at Western Michigan University. Colsen is a longtime language arts teacher who is currently an instructor in the Education Department at Hope College.
