Description

Howard Zinn said "... there is an underside to every age about which history does not often speak, because history is written from records left by the privileged. We learn about politics from the political leaders, about economics from the entrepreneurs, about slavery from the plantation owners, about the thinking of an age from its intellectual elite." The People's History Project of Grand Rapids try to follow in Zinn's footsteps by trying to understand the history of Grand Rapids through the eye's of those who were not privileged. We have received rights to show "A People's History of Grand Rapids" by Jeff Smith creator of the video and leader of the People's History Grand Rapids Chapter, who will be introducing the video and leading a brief discussion, there will then be a showing of the movie followed by a discussion of how to be an active member and/or ally of the LGBTQ community on Campus, in Grand Rapids, and hopefully globally, led by the staff of the Milton E Ford LGBT Center.
