Educational Support Program - Peer Mentors

The Student-to-Student Outreach Program (SSO) is comprised of experienced students who serve as peer mentors to ESP participants. Peer mentors offer both academic and personal support during students' undergraduate work at Grand Valley. Through continued contact with participants, peer mentors are able to act as peer guides throughout your college tenure. By providing a different perspective, these dedicated students can help you problem solve any obstacle that comes up during your academic journey.

Hi, my name is Brandon Bowman I am a sophomore here at Grand Valley. I am majoring in nursing and hope to do something in endocrinology research for Type 1 Diabetes. I plan to get my masters degree some day and work as a travel nurse.  I have been in the Educational Support Program since I was a freshman. ESP has helped me transition to college life by having my advisor support me and give me reliable advice with my academics. I enjoy studying in the sciences during my spare time as well as going to the gym. I am thankful for the opportunity to work with ESP as a peer mentor and look forward to seeing you all.

I am currently a Peer Mentor for the Education Support Program and a senior at Grand Valley State University majoring in Psychology and minoring in Anthropology.  I am originally from a small town called Grayling Michigan.

The Educational Support Program has helped me in so many ways throughout my time here. It has given me a personalized support system and guidance throughout my entire GVSU career.  As an ESP member you become a part of a very special community that truly helps you with your every need while you are at Grand Valley, and knowing that I have those connections to utilize and lean on, has meant the world to me.

As a Peer Mentor I enjoy working with all the students and connecting with them on a personal level. I really like the different programs that we plan and seeing how much they help and support the students who attend them.
