The ESSU Becomes First ASUG Student Chapter

On Monday night, Grand Valley State University’s Seidman College of Business, in conjunction with Americas’ SAP Users’ Group (ASUG), introduced the first-ever ASUG Student Chapter. In an effort to align the ever growing GVSU Enterprise Systems Student Union (ESSU) with a professional organization, Dr. Simha Magal, an ASUG volunteer and ERP professor at GVSU, saw the user group as a natural fit.

Magal kicked off the meeting by recognizing some of the students who started the ESSU before introducing Geoff Scott, ASUG CEO. Scott spoke about the importance of blending academic coursework with the real-world perspective and experience that ASUG can facilitate. He encouraged students to attend chapter meetings, meet as many SAP professionals as possible, and stay engaged with ASUG throughout their professional careers.

Next on the agenda was ASUG’s Casey Condon, who shared his experience working with GVSU’s Alec Nault to charter and establish the ESSU as a student chapter. He then encouraged students to use every tool they could to gain the attention of recruiters and show off their breadth of SAP knowledge, specifically using Academy Cube. Condon explained how Academy Cube aggregates learning activities and ties them to a student profile that companies can then use to identify and recruit potential employees.

Finally, GVSU Seidman Business School Dean Dr. Diana R. Lawson took the stage to celebrate this collaboration and invited Scott to present a certificate of achievement commemorating the ESSU becoming the first ASUG Student Chapter. Plenty of networking followed the conclusion of the meeting as students signed up for ASUG and Academy Cube and chatted with ASUG, faculty, and former students.

For more information, please visit the ESSU page on the GVSU website or visit ASUG.com. Students interested in joining Academy Cube can sign up here, and companies looking to take advantage of the education and recruiting functions of the platform should contact Casey Condon at [email protected].
