ESSU Meeting Minutes & Active Memberships
Company Information Session Featuring BorgWarner - 11/02/2016

This meeting started at 6:14 p.m. and took place in the Seidman Forum. This was a company information session on BorgWarner and ESSU is very glad to have them on campus for the first time. We were joined by Mike Glenn and James Gros. Mike is the Director of Enterprise Business and Engineering Systems at BorgWarner. James is the Director of the SAP Enterprise.
BorgWarner is an automotive industry components and parts supplier located in over 19 countries. They are headquartered in Auburn Hills, MI. They are running on SAP HANA. The main theme of the presentation was on their Enterprise Social Collaboration Platform. This consists of both their operating model, SAP support model, and Yammer. Yammer is a Microsoft 365 enterprise social networking tool on a private platform. They are adopting Yammer because of their decentralized operating model. It gets all of their business units to collaborate but it also promotes global accountability which they consider a global strength. Internal growth is based on people sharing info. Mike explained how this is a way to invite people with a purpose to take part in things which also provides a lot of business value. James then talked about their SAP Model and the different levels of SAP support offered. He is part of the SAP CORE Team of about ten people which are at the top of the support model. It was really interesting to learn how a collaboration tool like Yammer is similar to an ERP system in some ways like SAP in areas like change management aspect and the fundamental basis of company-wide communication and sharing of info or data. This was a very informative meeting. The meeting ended at 7:00 p.m.
