ESSU Cargill Event 10/21/2015

October 21, 2015

The Enterprise Systems Student Union was lucky enough to have two former Grand Valley students, Mitchell Grewer and Leiah Hess, come speak to us about Cargill. Cargill’s headquarters is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota and they specialize in servicing the world in food, agriculture, financial, and industrial products. They are the largest privately owned company in the world. Mitchell and Leiah were also both former ESSU members. They came to speak about the upcoming IT intern opportunities that Cargill is offering. This presentation was very important for our members because it was a day before the annual GVSU Career Fair.

The IT internships are during the summer and last for twelve weeks. Cargill is looking for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors to fill these open positions. Each intern will be working in groups of three or four throughout their internship. During the internship, interns take part in a group volunteer event, get to go to a Twin’s baseball outing, and attend Cargill plant visits. At the end of the summer, the interns will present their final project to many members of management at Cargill.

The second half of the presentation was very interactive. We played Jeopardy, where the different categories were products, development, GVSU, and random facts about Cargill. They split us into three different groups. This was a lot of fun for all of our members and gave us a chance to learn more about Cargill. Overall, this was a very successful event and we were so happy to welcome back our former ESSU members!
