ESSU Resume Workshop 9/9/2015

September 09, 2015

Today ESSU hosted a resume workshop. Leo, our president, began the meeting with thanking everyone for coming and had each of the board members introduce themselves. Next Meagan from the Career Center began to speak to us about how to build a good resume. She started her presentation with an interactive questionnaire of the do’s and don’ts of resume building. All the ESSU members took out their cellphones and logged onto an interactive quiz. The first question for example was “How long should a resume be?”, we had to either text the number 1 for a no longer than one page, a number 2 for a page or maybe two pages if it has really good content, or the number 3 if you believe it should be longer than two pages. The census among our members was number 2 that a resume should be one page or maybe two pages if it has really good content.

The next part of the resume presentation was discussing how to make impact statements. She discussed the different aspects of these impact statements, which included quantifiers, qualifiers, and outcomes. We all got an opportunity to practice making impact statements based off our current resumes. A few of our members shared with the group what they came up with and Meagan was very impressed with them.

I was impressed by the amount of new members that attended our first meeting. It was great catching up with our previous members and meeting the new ones. It was a very successful first meeting and we are all excited to see what this semester has to bring!
