ESSU Info Meeting and Board Meeting - 09/07/2016

September 07, 2016

This meeting began at 6:02 p.m. in the Seidman Forum and it was the first ESSU meeting of the 2016-2017 school year! The main purpose of the meeting was to give an introduction of the ESSU organization to students who were interested in joining. It was also a chance for current members to get a preview of the ESSU events that are on the schedule for this upcoming school year.

The ESSU intro presentation began with our faculty organization advisors, Professor Knoll and Dr. McGinnis, introducing themselves and they each talked about the “ESSU Advantage” for students. The E-Board also gave introductions. Professor Knoll emphasized the fact that ESSU is open to students from all majors who are interested in ERP and Enterprise Systems like SAP. ESSU is unique because of the networking opportunities, company tours, industry speakers, and professional development opportunities like resume workshops. Also, discussed were the ERP Program Curriculum options available to students. ESSU is also proud to offer unique partnerships with SAP’s University Alliance and ASUG which offers countless more opportunities for students to network and learn about SAP.

ESSU meetings for this year will be held in the Seidman Center Forum at 6:00 p.m. The semester dues are $20.00.

The first meeting adjourned at 6:50 p.m. and there were 18 students in attendance.

Afterwards, the first ESSU Board meeting was held in the same location starting at 7:00 p.m. We first discussed about the difference of the ERP GPA versus the Seidman GPA and Overall GPA. Next we spoke about possible future companies to recruit from our ERP Program for the future. Cargill will be coming back next semester to help us with our volunteer event during community outreach week which will be fun. The Young Thinkers event format was discussed. The first one will be October 7th at the Seidman Center. The second one for this semester will be on October 28th at the GVSU Detroit Campus sponsored by GM. The officers then gave thoughts about our Student Ambassador strategy to reach out to younger GVSU students. We thought of several “swag” items that we could giveaway to raise awareness of ESSU. Jacob will take the lead for coming up with a video idea. Michael and Junaid will work on a banner design and handout material. Alec will continue working with the ASUG partnership and co-branding. Lizzy will develop a food budget for the meetings. The meeting ended at 7:54 p.m.
