Eli Lilly

On October 26, 2018, Grand Valley State University’s ESSU (Enterprise Systems Student Union) traveled down to Indianapolis to tour Eli Lilly. The day was hosted by Brian Laughlin, Global SAP Application Operations manager, Mike Burnham, Financial Director, as well as GVSU Alumni Alec Nault and Junaid Syed. After a networking lunch with employees from Lilly’s SAP teams, we attended two information sessions on the company. The students in attendance learned about how Eli Lilly globally implemented a single instance of SAP, the first global implementation of SAP for any company at its time. Along with the history of SAP at Lilly we learned about the programs that Eli Lilly has available to new hires to learn about SAP company wide. They also do EI training classes and have many groups available for employees based upon special interests. Students were able to learn about how Eli Lilly began as a small Indianapolis company in 1876 and their journey developing essential vaccines and medicines that we all use in our daily lives.
