ESSU Board Meeting 4/13/2016

This meeting commenced at 6:05 p.m. on April 13th, 2016 in 3001 SCB. It was an e-board meeting, so most of the e-board members, new and old, were present. There were 11 members in attendance.
Professor Knoll started the meeting off by updating the progress she and Nick have made regarding setting up the company tour visits for next school year. Nick is in contact with GM about setting up a visit. Members discussed the type of tour we think would be beneficial and the most interesting. We also discussed about other options including possibly doing another visit in the fall semester to Meijer since it is local and would not be as costly. Professor Knoll also revealed a few new connections of companies that are interested in our program including PricewaterhouseCoopers, Nike, and Columbia which is very exciting. Some members also shared talking points about their thoughts and experiences about companies that can be anonymously given to recruiters. Leo recommended Professor Cotter to be the speaker for next year’s Diversity in the Workplace presentation. We also discussed about volunteer and fundraising opportunities. We are planning on having 2 Young Thinkers events in the fall. The one at Seidman will be early October on a Friday. The Detroit Young Thinkers event will be at the end of October on a Friday as well. Some fundraising ideas mentioned were recruiting events, t-shirts sales, and increasing membership dues to $20. We also may need volunteers for to help with a SAP training conference hosted at GVSU for professors in the Midwest area. We also brainstormed marketing ideas to target new students to the club especially MGT 268 students. Producing a new video highlighting student success stories with jobs and internships was mentioned. Also, there will be an ASUG meeting held at GVSU on June 16th. We are also close to becoming the premier chapter at ASUG which will provide new opportunities and recognition for our club. This meeting served a purpose of ensuring that officer duties will be transferred correctly to the new e-board for next semester. The meeting wrapped up at 7:10 p.m.
